I watched the game on channel 10 in MVD, and 2 or 3 times, the commentator suggested that the referee made a decision that favored Netherlands because it is a First World country.
Can it be that there's a conspiracy against Third World countries in World Cup?
After all the FIFA gets more advertising revenues when the "rich" Europeans watch the final game than the "poor" South Americans"...
I HOPE this is wrong and referees are honest, but it really looked like the referee helped Netherlands!

Not just against 3rd world countries. The USA won their first game with 3 goals and then the referee disallowed their 3rd goal and took the win away. He couldn't give any reason, just said the third goal would not be counted.

I don't watch soccer, but I've sure heard a lot of complaints about the referees. It has given me the impression that judging was either totally incompetent or else downright crooked.

Uruguay did really well, right? Better than hoped?

Do you also think Argentina lost 0-4 to Germany because of the ref.? And Brazil 0-2. Europeans will watch it no matter who is in the final.

Europe and South America have the countries with the best teams. No other continents has countries with world cup winners.

Watching from the vantage point of multiple camera angles and replays it seems very apparent that there were "unfair" or "wrong" calls a number of times during the games. Still they do not wish to rely on technology to assure correct calls. I do not quite understand that logic but I do believe the outcomes may have been different.
Regardless, I am sure our representation did a great deal for the spirit and pride of this tiny country. I love the flags flying everywhere. There is an enthusiasm and energy rarely displayed by Uruguayans. It's a very good thing!
