Time to Get Organized

Time to Get Organized

Postby Southron on Sat Apr 24, 2010 1:19 pm

As you know, we spent more than two years getting a non-profit organization formed here in Uruguay: Sociedad Southron AC. We should finally have a bank account for it in the next two weeks, after 5 months of waiting.

That having been accomplished, I would like to try to get the association a bit more organized before I leave for Europe in June for 4 months or so on business. To that end, I would like to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the Sociedad, especially those who would be willing to become involved in some volunteer activities.

We need a few people to assist Eddie Cohen, who has done a wonderful job administering this board:

1. A review committee to work with him on deciding when the terms and conditions are broken, warnings need to be given, or participants blocked.

2. I receive a lot of email that my business commitments simply don't allow me the time to answer and would love to have a "Committee of Correspondence" (isn't that how the American Revolution started?) to review them, answer the ones they can, and then pass to me only the ones no one else can handle.

3. We also hope to develop other projects in keeping with our purposes as noted on http://sociedadsouthron.net/.

You will have noticed that we are in the process of upgrading Uruguay Daily News, and soon we will be accepting both advertising and sponsorships, as well as actively seeking grants from foundations. The only thing holding this back has been the bank account. These adverts will appear on all 4 connected Uruguay sites and the income from they will be 100% for the operation of Sociedad Southron AC--my involvement remains non-commercial, except for the US sales of my book, which has helped defray a small portion of the more than USD100,000 we have spent promoting Uruguay over the last 4 years.

Therefore, I propose to host a meeting in Montevideo, or at my house in El Pinar, for all those interested in the above sometime within the next 2-4 weeks.

If you are interested, please EMAIL me at southron@UruguayLiving.com, please do NOT send a private message within the forum. Please suggest any ideas for SSAC as well as for a meeting time and area or specific place.

I look forward to hearing from those of you who really are interested in helping develop this country and assisting those who are considering moving here.
Best Regards,

The Southron

To all Sociedad Southron board members:
We are now selling advertising space on UDN. Please feel free to cut, paste, print or email the following notices (one in English and the other in Spanish) and pass them along to a person or entity that may be interested.
If you have enjoyed the daily news in English, please help us to keep UDN self-supporting.

ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY

We are now announcing advertising opportunities on our news website “Uruguay Daily News”, which was created 3 years ago to address Americans who live in Uruguay or who are willing to visit our beautiful country. It is a nonprofit organization and the only Uruguayan newspaper published in English.

During these 3 years we managed to attract significant traffic to our site. We now have approximately 10,000 readers per month and this number keeps rising! More importantly, we now rank #1 in Google, which immensely increases our visibility on the Internet.

As we need to cover our operational costs and keep on working, we are currently looking for companies or individuals who may want to use our website as a means of advertising their products or services.
We know that times are tough and money is tight so we are offering one free month on all entry level advertisers that advertise with us for three months or more for the same price! We have available for your business a choice of either 2 headline banners, 5 sideline banners or one bottom line banner space. Space is limited so make your order today! By clicking on your banner, users will go directly to your website.
If you are interested in this wonderful advertising opportunity, we offer you the following possibilities:
1) Your company’s banner located at the top (top line/headline) of Uruguay Daily News homepage at
a monthly cost of USD 75;

2) Your company’s banner located on the right hand side (sideline) of the page at a
monthly cost of USD 30;

3) Your company’s banner located at the bottom (bottom line) of the page at a monthly
cost of USD 50.

If you have a website, we can use your existing banner or make minor modifications to it at no cost!
In addition, we can recommend to you a highly skilled web designer at http://www.2mas2.com.uy who can create a banner design at an affordable price (USD 67, tax included). If you prefer, we can contact them
on your behalf.
Payments are made via wire transfer to Uruguay Daily News bank account or in person with one of our representatives. Please, do not hesitate to contact us should you have any doubts or questions. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Respectfully yours,

D. Scott Bishop,
Marketing Manager

Thus far 6 people have contacted me. My idea is to have the meeting at my house in Pinar, but arrange transport for those coming from Montevideo without their own vehicle.

I am only waiting for a clarification from our Escribano regarding some legal points and then will set a date for this month--my best idea is a Friday afternoon, starting with a luncheon at 13.30. That will get everyone home before dark.

Please comment!
Best Regards,

I will be coming from Ciudad Vieja and have room for 3, possibly 4 additional transportees in my vehicle so I can pick some folks up on the way. If others do not mind riding in a pickup truck bed I can probably bring everyone.
What good is peace if you are too dead to enjoy it?

Having recvd my 'assignment', I am not certain if this applies to me. Fridays are not the best option in my case but I can certainly manage if that is what is decided.

I'm currently tied up with a court case involving a dismissed and disgruntled employee of my former building contractor so I'm unable to get away just now as my attendance is required for various official conciliation exercises involving the Ministry of Work. I received the latest summons for last Thursday this morning :-)

I'd appreciate it if someone could keep me posted as to your deliberations.

Patrick.
